Following on from our Varsity game at Cambridge this past weekend, the Lancers are returning to training in preparation for our next (and likely last) game this year. We are still recruiting news players and coaches both for this year and in preparation for next year when we expect to have full BUAFL membership and competitive games starting in Michaelmas and Hilary terms.
Thursday 10th May: Chalk'n'talk classroom session where we will review the video of the Cambridge game and highlight things for us to work on this weekend. To be held in Christ Church College, so please meet outside the main entrance around 6:15pm, ready to be led to the room for a 6:30pm start. You'll need your brains, pen & paper.
Saturday 12th May: Trinity Cup flag tournament. This is a friendly non-contact day of games allowing you to pit yourself and 4 friends against a range of opponents en route to a suitable prize. Last year saw over 14 teams taking part with the team from Worcester College being crowned at the end. Full details for this event can be found on facebook at https://www.facebook.com/events/119961064806081/.
Sunday 13th May: Kitted practice at the park on Botley Road behind the West Oxford Community Centre. Please bring all of your kit (there is some team kit to lend to any players who do not have their own), footwear suitable for running on grass, enough water to drink throughout the afternoon, a gumshield/mouthguard that fits, and a desire to improve! Aim to be there for 11:45 ready to begin at Noon, and we'll finish around 3:30pm.
If you'd like to find out more about the team, or perhaps take up the sport yourself, please do join us at any of the events above. If you have any queries in advance, feel free to email the Head Coach at headcoach@ouafc.net.
Match reports to be published during this term, but a quick recap so far:
There are many ways to help make this club successful, and one key way would be to volunteer as a Coaching Assistant. Our growing squads (11v11 Contact, 6v6 Contact, 5v5 Flag/non-contact, Womens' 6v6 Team) have need of enthusiastic extra coaching support to help run drills, provide feedback and encouragement on player techniques and performance, film and review training, and help with the smooth running of the team throughout practices and games.
You can also take that next step to become a qualified Coach through helping the Lancers! Working with Sports Coach UK and the British American Football Coaching Association, nationally recognised training and certified courses are available and we will help support and encouragement you to develop your coaching and player management skills; boost your confidence in dealing with small to large groups; learn how to develop talent in others (and in yourself) and gain valuable experience to put on your C.V.
Contact headcoach@ouafc.net for more information, or come down to a practice session and talk to Head Coach Marshall and see the team for yourself!
American Football in Oxford dates back to the late 1980's when the team was known as the Oxford Combined Universities Cavaliers AFC. Take a look at the start of our Alumni section where we have some history and videos of past teams...
