Oxford LANCERS American Football Club

Oxford Students, the Lancers need YOU!

If you are interested in playing, the next training session is on Sun 29th Jan. We are always accepting new players, and there are still several games to play this year, so your involvement can make a difference! We need to get attendance levels back up so we can confirm scrimmages and games for this term.

Experience not necessary, just a desire to take part in a unique total team sport. For those of you with kit, please bring it all. For those without, the club has a small (but growing) supply of kit to lend to it's members. You'll need footwear suitable for running on grass, a good supply of water (>1ltr) and clothing suitable for exercising in (and not too worried about any ripping or tearing). Don't forget your mouthguard too!

Be at the West Oxford Park, behind the West Oxford Community Centre, off Botley Road, heading out of town, a few hundred yards past the train station, for 11:45am. We should be done by 3:30pm.

A Page Out Of History...

American Football in Oxford dates back to the late 1980's when the team was known as the Oxford Combined Universities Cavaliers AFC. Take a look at the start of our Alumni section where we have some history and videos of past teams...

Not sure about playing, but want to help the Team?

There are many ways to help make this club successful, and one key way would be to volunteer as a Coaching Assistant. Our growing squads (11v11 Contact, 6v6 Contact, 5v5 Flag/non-contact, Womens' 6v6 Team) have need of enthusiastic extra coaching support to help run drills, provide feedback and encouragement on player techniques and performance, film and review training, and help with the smooth running of the team throughout practices and games.

You can also take that next step to become a qualified Coach through helping the Lancers! Working with Sports Coach UK and the British American Football Coaching Association, nationally recognised training and certified courses are available and we will help support and encouragement you to develop your coaching and player management skills; boost your confidence in dealing with small to large groups; learn how to develop talent in others (and in yourself) and gain valuable experience to put on your C.V.

Contact headcoach@ouafc.net for more information, or come down to a practice session and talk to Head Coach Marshall and see the team for yourself!
